Firefighter/Paramedic Entrance Examination
The Brunswick Civil Service Commission will give a competitive examination for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. The examination will be given on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., at the Brunswick Recreation Center, 3637 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio. On the day of the examination, each applicant must identify himself or herself by means of a valid Ohio driver’s license.
The starting hourly rate for 2024 is $22.58, with a 4-year rate of $32.29 per hour. The City offers a competitive benefits package including medical, prescription, dental, vision and life insurance after 90 days, as well as covering the 12.25% employee contribution to OP&F. An eligible candidate must be at least eighteen (18) years old by the date of examination, a United States citizen with a high school diploma or GED equivalent, possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License without suspension or revocation in any state, and be a resident of Medina County, or any County adjacent. The candidate must also have the following qualifications:
- By the time of appointment obtained current State of Ohio Firefighter II Certificate
- By the time of appointment obtained current State of Ohio EMT- Paramedic Certification
- By the time of appointment obtained a valid Cuyahoga Community College “firefighter physical agility test” certificate or current CPAT certificate from a certified organization
Before appointment, the candidate will be required to submit to a computer voice stress analysis. The successful candidate will need to complete a pension physical, to include drug and alcohol testing, by a licensed physician chosen by the City of Brunswick.
The position of Firefighter/Paramedic has a one-year probationary period.
A minimum score of 70% is needed to pass the written examination. Extra credit points will be added to passing scores with proof of the following:
Honorable Military Discharge (Form DD214)
Education (Bachelor Degree / Associate Degree)
Being a 2-year resident of Brunswick
Documentation must be received by the end of the application period, to include: a copy of Form DD214 with honorable discharge status clearly indicated; a copy of college diploma; proof of residency. Please provide copies which will be retained for scoring of extra credit.
Qualified persons must register for the examination by completing an employment application. A non-refundable $30.00 Application Fee (check or cash) will be collected with each completed application.
